... is rather high! No, we´re not saying that everything has been
verified and cross-checked dozends of time and therefor is 100% correct.
There are mistakes in the data and there always will be some!
You wonder why?
It all has to do with the way the data in the
files is gathered. The Bollywood Movie Database generally consists
of three databases:
The second one is a directory that collects links to sites allover the
internet. Those links are added to the directory directly by the webmasters
or by friendly people who want to let everybody know of new sites.
The third one is a database filled with biodata, (autograph) addresses and
other bits and pieces concerning the stars, the directors, music directors
and other important people in the film industry.
The information sent in by people does not necessarily has to be correct all
the time. Pretty often new movies are announced and go into the data,
which get shelved or actually are discarded even before the first meter of
film is shot.
Titles change sometimes and so it might happen that we have the same
movie in the data with two different titles. Also the cast does change
pretty often from first announcement to the beginning of the shooting.
Information found in the magazines and on TV does not actually has the
tendency to be terribly correct. Those errors find the way into our
data as well, one way or the other ...
Not much, actually ... in the beginning, we had this discussion whether there
is a point in setting up a database that might never be completely
reliably and never will be totally correct.
We decided to take on the project even with all the doubts we had and all
the problems that must occure. And we still think we did right thing!
We receive well worked out lists, complete filmographies, biodata,
link directories and what not. All meant to get our data sorted out
and as correct and uptodate as possible ...
A tremendously complicated piece of software (uh, uh) takes those three
database and combines all of them to THE FILES that you actually
come to see while browsing this very site ...
Again, how come there are mistakes in data?
So, what are you planning to do about that?
There are hundereds if not thousands of people who come forward, tell us
about the mistakes and at the same time give us the correct data. There
are folks who keep us uptodate with every step their favorite heroine
or hero does. There are guys outside, who keep us informed about latest
releases, announcements, box office reports and everything.
Yes, we still think we made the right decision!
And many people seem to think the same ...
For our statistics lovers: On the 1st of January 1999 there was
data of 2847 movies collected in the database. On 1st of January 2000,
there were 3417 movies.
Now, 1st of January 2001, we have 4195 movies in the data.
Pretty impressive, don´t you think?
